Uranus in Gemini
Uranus, the rebel outer planet that thrives on shock factor and upheaval, will be shifting into the sign of Gemini on July 7th 2025. Discovered in the year 1781, around the same time that electricity was invented, this celestial body longs to throw you off balance, just to see if you are paying attention. How well do you handle sudden change? Do you shine in the chaos, or do you run and hide until Saturn comes to save the day?
While associated with sudden events and surprise, it does in fact take Uranus a lingering 83.9 years to orbit the Sun, spending various lengths of time touring each sign of the zodiac (around 6.3 - 7.8 years in each). When the outer planets change signs, we experience a collective shift more so than a personal one. That being said, Uranus is still very capable of activating one’s natal chart, disrupting or inspiring or maybe a little bit of both. Prepare to feel fidgety in otherwise comfy areas of your life. Taking a peek at the houses in your chart that Uranus will be leaving and entering can give you reflection and information about what you’ve learned and what’s in store for the next 7 years.
Uranus departs the fixed earth sign of Taurus (May 16th 2018 - July 7th 2025) in exchange for the mutable air sign of Gemini and will stay in the double-bodied sign until August 4th 2032. Ruled by Venus, Taurus is the sign of the Bull. She likes creature comforts, stability, financial security, consistency, you get the idea… Since 2018 we have placed more emphasis on cryptocurrency, and the United States’ political parties dug their heels deeper into the dirt, unwilling to budge in either direction, creating a pretty polarizing social atmosphere. We suffered through the COVID pandemic where previously known structures were tested and mutated forever. Rent prices soared through the roof during and after the pandemic. People started working from home, which let’s be real is a Taurus sun or moon’s dream.
Traditionally the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) aren’t given essential dignity, although you could make the argument that they may behave better or worse in certain signs. With Taurus being fixed earth - you could see how supercharged Uranus would express itself more comfortably in more of a mutable or cardinal sign which reflect flexibility and action. Uranus fought tooth and nail to challenge these outdated systems in our society, sometimes exposing the cracks in our foundation.
Like lightning in a bottle, Uranus in Gemini may bring about rapid change since it will be transiting the sign of Gemini, ruled by the animated and curious planet Mercury. Gemini is a mutable air sign that likes to try new things, engage in stimulating conversation, and be socially active in the local community. Uranus in Gemini could bring about change to technology, education, and transportation. Since Pluto entered Aquarius in 2023 AI has been looming over a society uncertain of its stance regarding this ominous tool. Now that all the outer planets have left feminine/nocturnal signs and shifted into masculine/diurnal signs: Pluto from Capricorn to Aquarius, Neptune from Pisces to Aries, and now Uranus from Taurus to Gemini, there will be a different energy in the collective. How will Uranus behave in this masculine/diurnal air sign? Will we be riding around in self-driving cars by the end of this? Will AI start replacing once coveted jobs? Will the U.S. get involved in yet another overseas conflict? We will experience this transit until August of 2032 so we may have to get comfortable with the uncomfortable or at least until we collect our bearings.
This isn't the first time that Uranus has toured through Gemini. Throughout history, Uranus in Gemini has come about as a signature of war, including the American Revolution (1774-1782), The Civil War (1861-1865), and World War II (1941-1945). The United States has Uranus in Gemini natally in the Sibley chart, so this will be a Uranus return for the country. What is happening now that echoes back to 83.9 years ago?
Here are some events I found to be very telling of the Uranus in Gemini signature during the last transit from 1941-1948. Remember when we think of Gemini we think of air, travel, communications, information, innovation, duality. When we think of Uranus we think of shock factor, disruption, invention, surprise, resistance, outside-of-the-box thinking… When you put those two elements together it’s interesting to see some of these worldly events in a new light.
